Abstract

Online learning platforms have become essential infrastructure in higher education, enabling flexible access to learning materials, communication, and academic activities. However, the success of e-learning implementation depends not only on the availability of features but also on the usability perceived by users. This study aims to evaluate the usability of the E-Macca learning platform at Universitas Teknologi Akba Makassar and identify aspects that require improvement to enhance the user experience. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using the System Usability Scale (SUS) method. Data were collected from 109 respondents, consisting of 94 students and 15 lecturers who actively use E-Macca. Data analysis included SUS score calculation, descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s Alpha reliability testing, and thematic analysis of qualitative user feedback. The results revealed an average SUS score of 56.79 with a standard deviation of 12.45, placing E-Macca in the “OK” category with “Marginal” acceptability. The average SUS scores for students and lecturers were 56.78 and 56.83, respectively, indicating no significant difference in usability perception between the two groups. Item-level analysis identified learnability and interface consistency as the primary usability issues. These findings were reinforced by qualitative feedback highlighting server instability, navigation complexity, the need for user guidance, course access code requirements, and non-functional search features. Based on these findings, several improvements are recommended, including role-based interactive onboarding, design system standardization, server infrastructure optimization, simplification of course access procedures, mobile application development, and periodic usability evaluations. This study provides empirical evidence regarding the usability quality of the E-Macca platform and serves as a foundation for future improvements in online learning systems within higher education institutions.
